If you were ever curious about: 1) an Empire version of Uhura (you know, mirror universe on the various television shows has the Federation be an Empire; 2) a lesbian version of Uhura; 3) a dominant sexual version of Uhura – well, here you go. This story. If you also had a desire, based maybe on seeing Carol Marcus on one of the alternative time line Star Trek movies, based maybe on something else – well, this story also includes Carol. Though she’s pretending to be ‘Carol Wallace’. And the story is entirely from Uhura’s point of view.
Right, so – this story may or not be both a mirror universe story and an alternate time line story. Not sure. There’s a tag that normally gets used on Archive of Our Own if the fanfiction is based on the alternate time line universe, and that tag isn’t used on this story. But then, the tags are oddly wrong in many ways – I mean the tags that did get used. Actually, maybe just the ‘animal play’ one – sure, Uhura had a thought about leashing Carol and having her crawl around on the bridge, but that was a thought, not actual action in the story – and it was a very brief thought.
Distracted myself. There’s several reasons why I believe this might also be an alternate time line story because several of the things seem to line up that way, albeit in a mirror universe way. Like Chekov being described as fragile – weak to see this as a hint, but he did seem more fragile in the alternate time line than original series (though that might be faulty memory) – and Carol got aboard the Enterprise under false pretenses in this story, like in the alt time line . . . etc. etc. Not important, really. Important is that this is a mirror universe story. And humans are assholes and take every advantage to show how sexually aroused they can be. Or something like that. Considering the stuff that went on during the original series run . . . that just means Kirk is: 1) shown to be more emotional; 2) more prone to making cruel jokes that have more bite; - but is at about same sexual level as ‘non-mirror universe’ time line, heck, he might be even a little less sexualized in the mirror universe. Everyone else, though, is more sexualized. Including Uhura.
I keep writing paragraphs as if I forgot what I wrote before and not really getting anywhere. Pfft. Right, so, Uhura is the main and only point of view character. She’s in the same or similar position on this Enterprise as she is on the TOS television series. Unlike Alternate Time Line, she hasn’t had anything to do with Spock sexually (actually, that reminds me that I saw everyone in the story in the form of the TOS actors, except for Carol Marcus, who I saw in the form of the film actress); who is more like his television series and original film time line films – a cold fish sexually. Only mentioned to indicate a difference – important because the story starts with Uhura feeling ‘lonely’, and deciding to go ‘on the prowl’.
After an exchange between Uhura and Kirk, Uhura begins looking for a ‘yeoman’ of her own – someone about on the same status level as an Orion slave girl.
One thing leads to another and Uhura targets Carol Wallace – whose name popped up on the crew register as Uhura was staring at it – there's something fishing going on there.
Blackmail/power games/dominance/submission/graphic depictions of sex fill out the rest of the story.
Entertaining in its way. More of a sex story set on the Enterprise than a Science Fiction story of exploration and stuff. Though it is a Mirror universe story, and they did tend to go that direction, albeit not as graphically as here.

I appear to be addicted to reading fanfiction. hmms. Weird. All those years I'd avoided it, and now...
Right, so, this is another fanfiction book using the characters from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This one directs its attention onto Tara and Faith. And, later, to Buffy.
There's quite an interesting dynamic going on here more on that later, need to set it up. Faith is an ex-con, having spent two years in prison after killing the deputy Mayor, and is back in Sunnydale - she's actually been back for about 2 months now, but most of the 'Scoobies' don't know she's back. Faith had called Buffy to let her know, but Buffy cursed her out and told her to get lost. Faith asked the council (who she's now good with) where else she should go, and they tell her to stay there. So Faith is patrolling later in the night than Buffy normally does, and in a different part of town.
Meanhile, Tara and Willow have split up - Willow has used her magic on Tara one too many times, even after promising to stop doing so. Tara is literally afraid of Willow, and fears that she won't be able to stop Willow from forcing her to get back together with her. She, Tara, has lost so much weight that she's quite bone-y. Skin and bones.
And that's the interesting dynamic - two women with issues run into each other; one is an ex-con who doesn't think she desires to be forgiven or befriended - while at the same time not using that as an excuse to fall back down the path of evilness. The other suffers from the abuse she suffered from her father and brother, and from her ex-girlfriend - to the point she does nothing but got to school (college) and study; to the point she forgets to feed herself. And because of her break-up with Willow, Tara herself is also on the outs with the 'Scoobies'.
As part of her 'keeping away from Buffy and her gang', Faith works in a bar she just knows none of them would step foot into, a bar called 'The Bitch Club'. It's a lesbian bar that has a certain . . . BDSM vibe (which rarely gets seen in this story, but does graphic get displayed somewhere along the line; though still more hinted at than seen).
One night Faith notices a blonde woman drinking - throwing back shot after shot of whiskey. She's not the kind normally seen in the bar, but she still sits there drinking. Faith watches as a regular approaches and forces themselves onto the blonde woman. Faith 'saves her', and literally tosses the aggressive woman out of the bar. When she wanders back to see if the blonde woman is okay, the first words from the blonde woman's mouth (and yes, I do notice I keep saying 'blonde woman'), indicates that she knows Faith. Then it becomes clear to Faith why the blonde woman looked familiar - it's Tara. Before things advance any further, Tara passes out. Faith brings her back to her place and nurses her back to health.
And thus begins a long budding friendship that leads to more between Tara and Faith. Both helping the other creep back from the edge.
And then Buffy gets in on the action by popping up in the story, and interacting with an original character who had been present in the first half of the book as someone both Tara and Faith bumped into. Then that dynamic unfolded.
Then, when the book was almost over, Spike had to show up, making it appear we were going down a particular road of 'let's remember and include some of the more important characters from the show, instead of just sticking with two somewhat on the fringe players (Tara and Faith)'.
Right, so - quite enjoyable book. Includes romance and graphic depictions of a sexual nature. Though the first graphic depictions were of a more barely clothed in public kind (it was theme night at the bar that Faith worked at as a bouncer - and Tara wanted to go (well, she wanted to spend time with Faith, Faith had to work, it was theme night, Tara was reluctant, still wanted to spend time with Faith, etc. etc. Faith's naked breasts were on display, then hidden behind a belt, etc. etc., it is something of an S&M club).
I may have lost track of what I was going to write next, distracted, as I was, by images and remembrances of that particular series of scenes.
Right, so, liked the book.

This is a fanfiction for the show based on, I believe I saw, an episode in season 5 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Whenever it was that Faith ended up falling into a coma, this story takes place 8 months later (that 'Faith in a coma' story line is very popular, I've found, in Buffy fanfiction). The story is from the point of view of Buffy Summers and Faith Lehane (though I don't think 'Lehane' was ever used in this book, instead she was called 'Faith Wilkins' (not sure if that means that the Mayor, Mayor Wilkins that is, 'adopted her' or if it's just a 'thing' they did in the story)).
Well, as noted, it is 8 months after Faith fell into that coma after being attacked, stabbed by Buffy, and falling to her . . . non-death. She's awake now, though she has amnesia. She doesn't recognize herself, nor this 'Wilkins' person, who is her contact person (Guardian might have been used), nor this 'Rupert Giles', who is her emergency contact. She's bored with resting on a bed, so she cleans herself up in a shower, and slips out of her room to watch some television. But but . . she was in a coma for 8 months! Well, she's also a slayer, and they heal quite fast. A lot faster than medical personal think is possible, but that's not really important. Just the part where she's not in her room when Giles and the Scooby squad turn up (Scooby squad being Buffy and her friends).
Faith giggles to herself as she hears the strangers talking about some missing woman. The words they use, the anger, hate, fear. That is until she overhears one of them calling the older man 'Giles' and she realizes they might just be talking about her. So she wanders over, they immediately start yelling at her, she's confused because, as noted, she has no memory. One thing leads to another, and Faith ends up going home to Joyce Summers home.
Meanwhile: Story involves both multiple LGBT couples, and two hetero couplings - Buffy's with Riley, and Xander is with Anya. (Meanwhile Willow is with Tara, though she is just now being introduced to the gang, and . . . Buffy's with Faith, eventually; there's also some vague comment about some Giles/Spike thing going on, but I'm not sure if I misread the one liner or not - that never comes up again and Spike is not in this story, so it basically doesn't matter).
This was a rather interesting and entertaining short novel. With much humor, some fluff, some angst, and much sex. Graphic sex. Good enjoyable story.

Supergirl In Training by wtfoctagon
Imagine, if you will, being an individual living your life. Going about your day. Certain things are set, certain others are up in the air. One of the 'set' things is the part where you will never have a child - for person (a) that's because they are physically incapable of having a child; for person (b) that's because they have had very rotten luck when it comes to family connections and they just know they’d royally screw up any kid that came within fifty miles of them (that ‘fifty miles’ thing is something I lifted from the story itself). So that’s you, for one reason or another you know that you will never have a child.
Now imagine meeting someone who bears a strong resemblance to yourself and who calls you mom.
That’s what happened at the start of this book. Lena was having a normal day, and then a normal night – driving home from work. At either a stop light or stop sign (I forget now which), Lena is startled by someone pounding on their passenger window. This is Lena Luther, so, of course, she . . . waited for more information before reacting (okay, she’d probably have stomped on the gas pedal, but meh).
Well Lena lowered the window a little bit instead of hitting the gas pedal. The woman on the other side of the window screamed something that sounds remarkably like ‘Mom! Hurry up! Let me in, Grandmother is after me!’ (the idea that Lena’s mother is after the woman on the other side of the window is conveyed, I forget if Grandmother or some other term was used). Naturally Lena . . . doesn’t open the door. Then she spots a black van hurrying towards her, the same van that had been involved in an earlier kidnapping – her own kidnapping. So, she open the door, the woman straps in, and off Lena shoots – now pounding on the gas pedal.
One thing leads to another, and it comes out that Lena does in fact have a daughter she never realized she had . . . 5 years in the future (though the woman herself is from 22 years in the future, that’s right, she’s 17). And in the brighter lights of her apartment, the young woman does look remarkably like Lena – with some mannerisms that reminds Lena of someone else.
Because of the nature of yellow sun/red sun/crushing stuff reasons, it is physically impossible for Kara to have a child ‘in the system’ (solar system). And yet, there she is. Lori L. Danvers – her daughter.
And so, over the course of . . . drat, the book description doesn’t have word count. Mmphs. Right, so over the course of roughly 70,000+ words, the reasons for what/how/why come out – unfold. Family time is spent. People are fought. Internal battles occur. Kara continues to be abused by Manhole (or however the author put that, actually it think it might have been closer to Manhell – Mon-El). Attempts to get away from him, gets abused more, etc. etc. You know, stuff happens.
This was a quite interesting and mostly fluffy story. Quite entertaining way to pass the time.

There are three ways I could begin this review:
This is not a book I would have expected to read but for one very specific reason: I put ‘deaf’ (or was it ‘deaf character’?) into the search box over on AO3 and came up with several book length works. Two of which I ‘captured’, this being one of them. It is unlikely I would have otherwise attempted this book for several reasons: fandom (wasn’t sure I had a huge desire to read a Glee fanfiction); but mostly because of the writing style – more on that later.
Fandom – Unlike, say, Killjoys, The 100, and other television series that pop up when I search for possible things to read on AO3 (Archive of Our Own), I actually have watched episodes of Glee. I have some kind of . . . issue with music based shows, so I always kind of ‘snuck’ peaks in on the series, though. I sneaked peaks at episodes throughout the first 3 or so seasons before dropping it from my vague fringe orbit of things to maybe pay attention to (and thus stopping one season short of Supergirl’s appearance on the show – or, I should say, I suppose, Melissa Benoist). I mention so I can note that unlike these other fanfictions I’ve read or could read, I actually did have some vague understanding – pre-understanding I suppose, of both Brittany Pearce and Santana Lopez.
I have to immediately dive into the main reason why I believe this would be a tough sell/read for many readers – writing style. Hmm, ‘writing style’ might not be the correct way to enter this topic. Bah, no matter. This book is, I believe, the only book I've read that uses the ‘second person point of view’ that wasn’t a choose-your-own-adventure book. Despite the use of you, the reader has no control over this story. Other than reading or not reading. There are two points of view – both use you during their own sections (though not when that person is in the other persons sections, as in, you’d have Brittany’s sections be like: ‘You gazed down at Santana . . .’ instead of the super complicated ‘You gazed down at you . . .’ because that’d just be weird and difficult to read).
This is a 132,472 word book. I thought from the near beginning that this might be better as a short story – not because of the information coming in, not because of the plot, not because of the story, but specifically because of reading alternating ‘you’ sections is tough over the long haul. Yet I did it. And, barring a few moments here or there, I loved every second of it. Well that’s odd – now I have tears in my eyes just thinking about the book. Not sure that’s happened before.
Right so, story: Brittany and Santana meet in their late twenties in something like a split second random event type way. The way in which neither might have known the other except for this random split second event occurring. Brittany, you see, accidentally slammed into Santana while both were out walking on the Philadelphia city streets. Coffee splashing all over Santana’s expensive coat. Anyone who has seen Glee probably could predict how Santana would react to this type of situation. And she did begin to react that way – angry, belligerent, etc. Until something about Brittany made her slow and stop. It might have been the deaf thing, it might have been the attractiveness of Brittany, it might even have been the cute dog, but something stopped her angry words.
The two then begin a slow burn type of relationship that occurs over many years. With the book ending something like six years after the start of the book (I think it was six years), during which time, a romance occurred, family issues occurred (both positive and negative), holidays, travel, life occurred. Then the nice introduction of another character near the end.
A good solid book. And bloody hell, I’ve tears in my eyes and it’s hard to see now. Ah, blinking. That helped.

1) This is the kind of book where I wouldn’t be surprised to be one of the few people to give the book 5 stars for reasons related to how the book is set up/structured . . .This book needs to come with a warning: Warning: drink plenty of fluids while attempting to read this book as fluid loss, directly from your eyeballs, may occur.
2) To start with: this book falls within the fandom of Glee, though an alternate universe version in which Brittany Pierce and Santana Lopez meet in their late 20s (Britt – 29; Santana – 26). And: Santana is a radio personality while Brittany is a successful children’s artist (illustrates children’s books) & is deaf.
3) Then there’s the way the review actually starts –

Bah, no matter. This book is, I believe, the only book I've read that uses the ‘second person point of view’ that wasn’t a choose-your-own-adventure book. Despite the use of you, the reader has no control over this story. Other than reading or not reading. There are two points of view – both use you during their own sections (though not when that person is in the other persons sections, as in, you’d have Brittany’s sections be like: ‘You gazed down at Santana . . .’ instead of the super complicated ‘You gazed down at you . . .’ because that’d just be weird and difficult to read).
This is a 132,472 word book. I thought from the near beginning that this might be better as a short story – not because of the information coming in, not because of the plot, not because of the story, but specifically because of reading alternating ‘you’ sections is tough over the long haul. Yet I did it. And, barring a few moments here or there, I loved every second of it. Well that’s odd – now I have tears in my eyes just thinking about the book. Not sure that’s happened before.
Right so, story: Brittany and Santana meet in their late twenties in something like a split second random event type way. The way in which neither might have known the other except for this random split second event occurring. Brittany, you see, accidentally slammed into Santana while both were out walking on the Philadelphia city streets. Coffee splashing all over Santana’s expensive coat. Anyone who has seen Glee probably could predict how Santana would react to this type of situation. And she did begin to react that way – angry, belligerent, etc. Until something about Brittany made her slow and stop. It might have been the deaf thing, it might have been the attractiveness of Brittany, it might even have been the cute dog, but something stopped her angry words.
The two then begin a slow burn type of relationship that occurs over many years. With the book ending something like six years after the start of the book (I think it was six years), during which time, a romance occurred, family issues occurred (both positive and negative), holidays, travel, life occurred. Then the nice introduction of another character near the end.
A good solid book. And bloody hell, I’ve tears in my eyes and it’s hard to see now. Ah, blinking. That helped.

I do not believe I can stress enough how incredibly long this book is. Super super long. So so long. So many thousands upon thousands of words. But, enough of that.
Supergirl gets 'shipped' with a bunch of different people in fanfictions - I've read a few, not read a few others. Specifically limiting myself to Supergirl + some other woman relationships (since I haven't paid attention to see if there are any with her and any men), we have: SuperCat (Kara + Cat Grant); SuperCorp (Kara + Lena Luther - Lena runs L-Corp, I assume that's where the Corp part comes form); SuperLocke (Kara + Emily Locke from Powerless - included because I've read said ship; oh, and that's not an 'official' ship-name, but seemed to fit, so I used it); and here we have . . . no idea what ship name to use. In other fanfictions some version of cest gets used. Like, maybe calling this Supercest. That's shockingly popular, by the way, having a bunch of incest stories floating around. But that doesn't actually work here since, not only is Alex and Kara not blood relatives, they weren't raised as sisters in this story (this is what happens when I insert a paragraph before what I'd already written, mmphs - yeah, Kara, as I mention again later, raised by Jonathan and Martha Kent, not the Danvers). So, two completely unrelated people, who only first meet as adults, get into a relationship together, one named Kara Kent, other named Alex Danvers. The natural ship name would probably, following the theme above, be something like SuperDanvers, or the like, but that still implies incest, which isn't occurring here. Probably something that incorporates Kent into the name should probably be used for the ship name. *shrugs*
This story here is a Supergirl story based on the television show; though, technically, and this is something I found out only after starting, this is more of a Gotham City Sirens comic fanfiction, mixed with a Smallville tv show fanfiction, with layers of the first season of Supergirl (TV). And even for the Supergirl part, this just takes some of the ideas, and sets the story in some other world/universe. For example, story includes Kara as Supergirl, but she was raised by Martha and Jonathan Kent, the same people who raised Superman (in every story I know about except the one where he landed in Russia and presumably was raised by Russians - referring here to 'Red Son' story). And, while Kara still works with Win in this story, Win is in the background and almost never speaks (more on that later . . . if I remember*); and while she works for Cat Grant, Cat Grant does not run a media company, but a string of coffee shops.
From Gotham City Sirens we get Catwoman/Selina Kyle, Harley Quinn, and Pamela Isley/Poison Ivy living and working together - and appearing in this story as well. For they are friends with Barbara Gordon. Oh, I'm sorry, I meant 'Alex Danvers'. Alex, you see, is from Gotham, and her father is the police commissioner. And while she didn't become Batgirl, she did go into the police (as Batgirl/Barbara Gordon wanted to do, but was kept from doing by her father). While there is mention of an actual Barbara Gordon in this story, in passing, Alex really does seem to have Gordon's backstory, while still having the Supergirl (TV) personality of Alex Danvers.
From Smallville we get: the main enemy in this storyline (and possibly Clark Kent/Superman + Lois Lane might also be Smallville's versions, not sure). The main enemy is . . . I forget now exact words, but something like 'Hero Menace'. It's an organization that believes that heroes are a menace and should be stopped from existing. Apparently that was a thing on Smallville, though I didn't see enough of that show to have seen them. If you've seen X-Men, you might have come across the idea before.
Right, so Kara Kent works, as her day job, in a coffee shop. The first 20 pages, or thereabouts, of this story take place entirely in that coffee shop. Though eventually we get out of there, and eventually Supergirl is also seen. Though it takes a really long time for the first physical appearance of Supergirl (she's mentioned a bunch of times before she is ever seen). And I'm not trying to separate out Supergirl into a separate character, no that's Kara Kent's night job. At the coffee shop, working beside her, is Kara Kent's best friend - Lucy Lane (sister of Lois Lane). Also there is Cat Grant, as boss, and Winn, as coworker-maker of food. Oh, and to somewhat round things out on this end - James, presumably the same James from Supergirl (TV), is Lucy's somewhat estranged husband. Kara is one of the point of views.
Another point of view is Alex Danvers. Alex, along with everything else I already noted, is a police detective who has moved from Gotham to National City (an important thing to note that Gotham is on the USA east coast and National City is on USA west coast, since people from Gotham kept popping up in this story) after 'the incident' forced her to flee Gotham and her former life (The incident is lifted directly from something that had already occurred in the comics; there's even a comment that 'this incident is one that is just like what had happened to Barbara Gordon'; also, based on how Alex kept reacting, the incident really didn't match up to her feelings of self-hatred and need to keep away from superpowered people ). Because of that 'incident', Alex no longer desires to work with, near, or around superpowered people, though she isn't anti-supers. Unlike her new boss (Max Lord, new police chief) and his terrorist friends (hero menace).
Alex and Kara bump into each other at Kara's place of work. They have a lovely slow burn fluffy relationship starting when some ill-timed, inappropriate stuff occurs in Kara's line of sight that causes waves of angst and heartbreak. Based on how Alex is friends with the Gotham Sirens, and they are very touchy-feely.
Interesting story. Mostly enjoyable. To a large degree, the only part that I could have lived without - seriously - is the whole issue involving James and Lucy; and the yelling at Lucy done by her sister Lois. Though mostly theJames, while still married to Lucy, 'falls for' both Lois and Clark Kent. And they are quite inappropriate about the whole thing and stuff .
ETA: * - and I did forget. mmphs. Right, so - the very important point I had meant to mention is relatively simple. There are several important men in this story: Hank Henshaw - Alex Danvers police partner; Winn - food maker; James - husband of Lucy Lane; Superman/Clark Kent; Max Lord - chief of police; random henchmen and higher ups on criminal side; the police therapist etc. There are a bunch of important women in this story, two of which have POVs (Alex Danvers; Kara Kent): Kara Kent; Alex Danvers; Lucy Lane; Lois Lane; mother Danvers (Elisa Danvers?); Selina Kyle (Catwoman); Harley Quinn; Pamela Isley (Poison Ivy); Cat Grant. One important agender person (Officer Vasquez). And the point? 99.999999% of the men have very little to do in this story - very little in the form of lines/scenes/etc. Hank Henshaw is the one exception - he has both an important role in the story, and an important amount of 'screen time'. The rest? Mentioned. Rarely scene - one example: Max Lord is the much despised boss. How do we the readers know? Alex talks about him as being the much despised boss to others. There are scenes wherein Alex is called back to his office, scenes where he has a smug smirking look on his face but . . . he's an evil critter who is more 'there' than 'there'. His scenes consist of Alex going into his office, then leaving being pissed off/shocked/etc. He rarely says anything - in the book. 99% of the other men face similar 'lost scenes' issues. Like - Win is constantly in the cafe at the same time Kara and Lucy work there, he is mentioned, they occasionally walk past him and . . he almost never opens his mouth, he almost has zero impact at all on the story - one counter to mentioning him -> he is in the back area making food so . . . less chance for him to talk; well there's also the Asian man who works up front with Kara and Lucy and I believe he never opens his mouth in this book. That's what I mean when I mention that there's something odd going on with the men in this book. The women? Well, Cat Grant has some important scenes, but mostly a background character. Similarly Lois Lane. And yet - both have roughly the same 'importance' to the story as someone like Clark Kent and Max Lord and yet most of the men's scenes are mentioned/told about later, while Lane and Grant's scenes are shown to the reader. Not sure what the weird thing that is going on in this story. I mean, this is an almost 1000 page book - most of the women have significant 'page time', while all men but for Hank are background characters who are almost silent.

I've never really understood why, but I rather do like reading books that involve zombies. And I, for the most part, liked the television series Friends. Never thought I'd read a fanfiction story about the show, though. But then, I never thought I'd see one that featured a zombie outbreak occurring around them and them attempting to survive.
This story is set at some point after the end of the series. With flashbacks bouncing around from 'present', 2002, 2004, and 2006. Interesting story. Weird zombies. Odd mix of humor and horror.
Readable story.

I didn't expect to like this one as much as I did. No, wait, I mean, I kinda did since I loved another short story by this author (Jae from NJ, not Jae from Germany; well, actually I appear to love both authors but, bah), but I meant that I started this one and found it tougher to get into right away. Potentially that's because I had the sound of tv on in the background, maybe the story is just tough to get into *shrugs*.
Right, so, this story is set in the Gilmore Girls universe, but doesn't star either Rory or Lorelai. Instead it stars, from POV perspective, Lane Kim. I was curious, since Lane Kim seemed to be on the show throughout and was already friends with Rory when it started, if there was s story involving the two of them. Instead I found a story involving Lane and Paris. Somehow I can't seem to get away from stories involving Paris. heh. And yeah, she acted the same way in this story as in the prior one I read including her in it.
From the knowledge, limited but slowly expanding, I have about the show, I have some knowledge now of Paris. Lane has popped on and off, but I don't know her well enough to know if this version had any connection to the one on the show. Like, this one was all about being forced to go to a Christian college - that hasn't come up so far, strict mother, yes, Christian college? Can't say I noticed Christian stuff regarding Lane.
Right, so, quick story - Lane had stopped by Rory's house to slip a note under her door. She's confronted by Paris who threatened to mace her. One thing leads to another, and Lane allows access to the Gilmore house.
Much humor, like the other story I read by this specific author. Not as much as prior, but there. Good, interesting, neat story. Borderline erotic even. Borderline, not actual. I mean, when someone brushes at your hair gently, then slides their thumb against your skin, then kisses you? Well, borderline erotic. *nods*
Right. Quick short story. Enjoyable. Less so than previous story read ... I need a new way to reference whatever it is I'm referencing. mmphs.

Any book that is a fanfiction based on Calvin and Hobbes would be, somewhat by definition, odd. This specific book finds Calvin an adult (not exactly sure of his age, I had thought he was in his thirties, but a later comment might have indicated him being closer to late 20s). Calvin has spent his adulthood traveling around - wandering, as a freelance writer. He returns home for the first time in five years when he is informed that his father has died.
He finds his childhood home has changed (as in the community - there's a subdivision built where he used to wander in the woods! and other such observations), that his next door neighbor is still there (Susie - though more that she had moved back home 2 years earlier to take care of an ill parent), that he needs to come to terms with his feelings about his father (and about his life), and that - Hobbes is still there.
Calvin, apparently, turned out to be a lonely, angry, weird man. Happens, eh?
Oh, and while it is barely there - less there than it probably should have been - there is 'something' of a romance that occurs in this book. Tiny little bit.

Calvin, apparently, turned out to be a lonely, angry, weird man. Happens, eh?
Oh, and while it is barely there - less there than it probably should have been - there is 'something' of a romance that occurs in this book. Tiny little bit.

This is another good solid story - a fanfiction of Batman: The Animated series, focused on Harley Quinn & Batgirl (as in, those, but for a chapter here or there, are the main point of views) - though Batman, and Robin have largish roles (though Tim, the most recent Robin, spends the majority of the story banished from the role of Robin), plus some cameos from others - like Nightwing, The Joker, Penguin, Two Face and Scarecrow (mentioned, not scene).
Right, so - the book opens with Harley falling to her death, while Joker, in a different room, is being shot to death. Except . . . Batgirl had grabbed at Harley as she was beginning to fall, which adjusted the angle and . . . well, to cut this shorter - she lived, but was very badly damaged. Joker, though, died. This is one of those 'holy spoilers Batman!', except that this is how the story opens. Mid-action. With people falling and dying and stuff.
And so - Harley's battered and bruised body was found. She was taken to a hospital then to an insane asylum, whereupon she started down a process that almost no villain ever seems to go down - actually work to became sane again, and 'do the right thing' from there on out. Most, if they get out, likely broke out - and return to a life of crime. Right, so, that's what this story is about - the redemption of Harley - plus, a bit of 'coming out'. For Harley that occurred super fast (at least compared to the other party involved). For the other person? Gah, took forever.
Right, good story.
Sex was implied, but, other than some kissing, hugging, mention of hard nipples, and wet panties, everything more advanced than that was kept 'off screen'. Though either implied or bluntly stated to have occurred (this was some kind of story wherein both of the mains, Harley and Barbara Gordon (I almost called her Batgirl, but then remembered that there have been several different Batgirls) occasionally talk directly to the reader (more in a 'I'm writing a diary type thing and someone might find and read it').

The Boston Marriage by Jae
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
1) I'm 99.99% certain this is a different author using the same one name name as the Jae I've read something like 40 books by (since that Jae is from Germany, and this Jae - the one that wrote this story, is from New Jersey);
2) I've never seen Gilmore Girls (I know, bad me);
You know how good a fanfiction this work is? I've no clue what Gilmore Girls is or what it is about, but after reading this hilarious short story, I want to immediately find and watch . . . well, let's not go overboard - an episode of this show. This story is that good. I couldn't stop laughing.
This is a story wherein two characters apparently aren't two who would normally have chemistry together, but the author was very good in laying the foundation - of showing how and why they are good together, and how and why they actually do, in fact, have chemistry. Hell, I'm not sure if the tears are form laughing hard (which I know some are) or from some other emotion. This was one damn good short story.
I loved this short story, I did.

I'm not sure what I expected with this story - truthfully, I expected to dislike it. No, really, I did. I mean, when the author's notes at the beginning is basically repeatedly saying sorry about how poor this story is . . . well . . . you don't expect to actually like the story. Not really sure how I got myself to read this one. I liked Veronica Mars, saw the film as well, and read the first of the books that got put out, but I always felt vaguely detached from it all - mostly because I thought it was interesting, while at the same time thinking that I wasn't catching enough of the stuff going on to truly understand what was going on.
But still, liked the television series and since I seem to have been sucked down into the rabbit hole of fanfiction, I'll read one that involves Veronica, eh?
Enough of that. Well, no, to continue for one specific reason - one of the reasons why I thought I might not want to read this and might actually dislike this here story, beyond the author's own note, is the simple premise part - the frenemies part.
So, right - the story is set up as Veronica telling what's been going on lately with her life in some kind of journal like way (so it's a mix of telling and showing). Telling about how Madison Sinclair caught her illegally searching the principals office. Madison hates Veronica and immediately taunts Veronica about how she's going to call the cops and stuff. Veronica, being Veronica, knows some stuff that'll keep Madison from doing so.
Somewhere along the way, Madison's lips ended up on Veronica's. No, not then, later, at school (wait, we are already in school, bah) - in the bathroom. See, Veronica had blurted something out to Madison when Madison caught her (beyond the stuff that'd keep Madison from calling the cops), that completely changed Madison's presumptions. So, Madison wanted to confront Veronica in the bathroom - to force . . . something on her. It's hard to tell, exactly, since things are from Veronica's point of view, and she certainly thinks, for the longest time, that Madison is just a stuck up bitch - the numero uno mean girl. Right, so, somewhere during this confrontation, here in the bathroom, is when Madison thrust her lips against Veronica's. Kind of a pity kiss type thing (there are reasons, I won't go into them). Something Veronica certainly didn't want, and something that wasn't supposed to necessarily lead to Madison wishing to have more kissing time.
Whatever she had wished for, and whatever Veronica felt, the kissing went long, about a minute or more long. Eventually Veronica pried Madison off of her and pushed her away. Whereupon Madison realized what she'd done and . . . well, let's not spill every detail, eh?
Point being: Madison is one of the super rich young women who life in this rich town in California; Veronica is one of the poor young women in a rich town. Madison is, to a certain extent due to natural personality issues, a massive bitch and mean girl - to many, but especially to Veronica. So - this isn't some kind of Romeo & Juliet situation. No, not talking about warring families. It'd be more like some alt universe where Darth Vader wasn't Luke's father, and somewhere after Darth cut off Luke's hand, he realized he wanted to kiss Luke. Something along those lines (and yes, Madison is evil; not slaughtering many children evil, more mean girls evil). I went with Darth and Luke instead of, say, Joker and Batman, because of the hand cutting off thing - since Madison did do something to Veronica that turned out quit horrible (accidentally or otherwise).
Right, so, Madison and Veronica hated each other, until they kissed, and realized they still hated each other, but liked kissing each other. Story unfolded from there. And I liked it a lot more than I expected to like it.
re: lesbian/bisexual. Both young women have a history of dating men (well, teenage boys of roughly their own age). Neither has any kind of history of dating women. Neither has particularly liked, always, the things they did with men, but do enjoy the things they do with each other. Story never got to the point of putting labels on people (well, Veronica did have a thought, while gazing upon 'another' lesbian couple, about Veronica and Madison doubling the number of lesbian couples at the school).
Oh right, since it's fanfiction, and therefore based on real people (or real images . . . unless it was fanfiction of ficiton but . . right, sorry), I have been inserting pictures of the characters as the characters (um, weirdly worded).

Jurisdictional Boundaries by Geonn Cannon

Stargate SG-1 is one of my favorite television series, and the original film is also one of my favorites. This fanfiction is not based on either, though the first part does include some of the SG-1 squad. Mostly just Sam, but cameos from some of the others. No, this fanfiction is a mix of Stargate Atlantis and Law & Order SVU - during the time that Col. Sam Carter was the commander of Atlantis.
For the most part, the fanfiction flirted around between good enough and meh. And, to a certain extent, the story only made it up as high as it did, rating wise, because of action scenes that occurred on a non-earth world (and not Atlantis world) - that section was . . oh, around 4 something stars. The rest hovered around 3. Problem being that this is a romance/sex-themed story and the two main characters showed no real chemistry towards each other. They initially just kind of boredly fell against each other for some inappropriate uninspired sex and then . . . didn't see each other again for years. Until they did again - see each other again.
Right, so, story - on earth, in New York, Olivia and her team of detectives track down a kidnapped woman who had been taken from a club and raped for about 24 hours straight. Oddly, though, the woman seems quite happy, at least, that is, until she realizes that she's being kept from her 'master'. She's quite sad and angry about that. Eventually Olivia is informed that some Air Force Colonel had turned up. She has a 'cure' for the drugged woman - the government had come across the drug before and . . . well, let's not tell everything. The point is that Col. Sam and Olivia came into contact here. During the course of the investigation two things occurred - 1) Olivia learned about some, only a little, of the advanced stuff Sam and company have been doing; 2) Olivia and Sam have sex.
Years later Sam, now commander of Atlantis, is informed that one of her people has been raped. For reasons, including the part where Olivia has already been partially informed of secrets, not revealed anything, and investigates rapes, Olivia is called in to investigate. Through a series of stargates. To a different galaxy. Sam and Olivia have more sex. Olivia investigates.
Later, after Olivia had returned to earth, an illness breaks out on Atlantis. Research shows that the infection event occurred while Olivia had been there. Olivia is informed . . . etc. etc. . . sex. . . .etc. etc.
Year later . . . Olivia and Sam .....right, let's not tell the entire story here.
Sex.
So, just in case I forgot to mention it - Olivia and Sam have sex. Time passes, though it isn't always easy to tell 1) how much time, and 2) if Olivia and Sam are together/separate; and or if they are cheating on each other or on others. Somewhere along the line it seemed as if both were cheating on others with each other; and or cheating on each other with others. That part was confusing. Neither Olivia nor Sam cared, though their 'others' seemed to care. Deeply. Though, to be fair, one was ill at the time they showed they cared.
Action occurred.
Rodney MacKay acted like himself.
Stuff happened.

What If...? by KineticKid
This is an interesting twist that I'd never thought about - never even considered possibly thinking about. The story is called 'What If' for a reason. What if Willow was off at an out of state college - when Tara came into the picture, became 'known' to the group? (ETA: I mention it, somewhat, later, but on the television show, Willow and Tara were a couple).
The book opens with Buffy out on patrol. Wandering, killing, wandering - coming across a woman that has four vampires closing in on her. Buffy starts taking the vamps out when one suddenly explodes in flames, Buffy takes out the last vamp and looks over at the woman. Who stammers, thanks her, and runs away. Buffy finds a little celtic cross charm on the ground and assumes that the woman had dropped it - wishes to return it, but has no clue who the woman might be.
The next day finds Buffy and Joyce, Buffy's mother, chatting before Buffy wanders to class - at college. See, this is the period/part of the series, when everyone is an adult now (Buffy being 18, Tara being 19 (Tara's exact age is mentioned in the book, and Buffy is a year younger); Joyce, I assume, is somewhere between 36 and 46) and doing college like stuff (except Xander - I've yet to run across a story that has Xander go to college). And I mentioned the Joyce/Buffy talking thing so I'd remind myself to note that that's one of the things they do - talk a lot and stuff - Buffy lives at home while going to college, and Joyce knows Buffy is the slayer. In that other universe, the one that was shown on television, this specific aspect didn't happen because the mother got an aneurysm rupture and died. So -- that parts different. (Also, Dawn doesn't exist. I forget now if this story actually takes place before or after Dawn had appeared; or, I should say, if the split point that pivots on one line towards the tv show story, and the line that pivots towards this book's story line, is before or after Dawn had appeared).
I mention class up above because, while in class, Buffy spots a blond woman who looks vaguely familiar. Then finally realizes that it is the woman from before who had stuttered nervously and fled. I don't want to go down a road of noting everything that happened in the book just the part where Buffy and Tara kept bumping into each other, Buffy wants to be friends with Tara, Tara seems receptive, especially since Tara finds Buffy attractive, and somewhere along the way Buffy comes to the realization that she finds Tara attractive. And is quite confused by that, since she has tended to fancy men so far in her life. After the questioning occurs, and the romancing, and the like, the rest of the book unfolds. Which, oddly enough, is the last . . . oh . . . 50% of the book.
This is the part of the series when Faith was in that coma she'd fallen into. Part of the rest of the book involves Tara (and the others) trying to help Faith. While also showcasing lots and lots of sex between Tara and Buffy. And I mean - a lot. Everywhere. Non-stop. So much sex that it's a good thing both are, in their separate ways, super-powered by supernatural forces or they probably would have died from all that sex. Oh, didn't mention that, did I? Well, kinda, but didn't expand on it. Well, first, if you read this story you probably already know that Buffy is 'The Slayer' - the one who has this superpowered ability to fight and protect humans against demons; well, Tara is a witch - from a longish line of witches, and each generation grows stronger the further away you get from the first one who dabbled in witchcraft.
Tara is not a character that I had spent a whole hell of a lot of attention on. Even though she's 'the lesbian' and in 'the lesbian relationship on a mainstream network show' (even if it was WB/UPN), I still didn't spend a whole hell of a lot of time watching her. For . . . reasons. Partially because she didn't seem a whole hell of a lot different from Willow. Both stuttered more than you'd think a person could stutter. Both were super shy. Both were kind of mousy. Both were basically the same character except for hair color. Remove her from getting absorbed into Willow, as occurred on the tv show, and you can see the character on her own. Watch her, learn her, feel her grow into her own creature.
Even though I'd never considered the idea, Tara and Buffy actually did/do make an interesting couple. Different than, despite my comments in the prior paragraph, than a Willow & Buffy match up. Because they aren't really the same character with different hair color (Willow and Tara), it's just how they got lumped into my brain as the floated around in the expanded 'Scooby' friends zone.

The other characters were great as well - well, good at least. The Faith scenes were quite good. The mother/daughter/Giles scenes were good. Willow and her revelations were good.
All around a good solid story. With lots of . . . fantasy elements, and action, and tons of graphic erotic sex stuff.
Rating: ... something between a 4.25 and a 4.5. I'll call it 4.5 as I don't have a rating shelf this would fall on specifically. Maybe 4.33? Something like that.

Policies and Procedures for Being Emily Locke by Nerissa

I rather liked the show, despite it's very short appearance on television, and rather liked Emily Locke. Sad to see both disappear from my life. (Referring to Powerless, not Supergirl - since Supergirl is still on the air)
The story is cute and funny. And rather good at capturing Emily's character. To a certain extent, goodish at capturing Kara. I suppose I'm used to Supergirl stories wherein there's a big deal about Supergirl actually going out with another woman, while this one . . ., well, before we got anywhere in the story, Kara had asked Emily out for a 'non interview' . . . um, thing. Evening? I forget now how it was worded. Mind, it could be Emily misreading things . . . but then Kara asked about the tabloids saying that Emily was dating Green Fury, and then being happy it was fiction. Because.
Okay, when I said that the story was 'cute and funny' - I really meant it. There were times I laughed openly and loudly.
Said while eating a meal at a restaurant after Kara appeared to have said something more than she had meant to say:
So Emily, determined to make it, if not less awkward for Kara, at least equally awkward for both of them, blurted out “I think you are unfairly beautiful and I’d really like to kiss you on the mouth.”
Oh, and the erotic parts were . . . funny and . . . erotic. *Noted with wide bright eyes* And, um, I now understand the attraction of love making with someone who can read your body through various super-powers. Is . . . good.
Hmm, action good too. *nods*
I love this short story more than life itself. Wait, no, that's stupid. Um, I really really like this story? Hmms. Well, something like that.

Modifications by Bearblue

Fanfiction - Star Trek Voyager
This was an interesting book with an interesting twist to the Star Trek Voyager story. Then it just got downright weird. 'Old Admiral Janeway' suddenly blinking and waking up in her 'Captain Janeway' body 7 years after Voyager had been transported to the Delta Quandrant? Interesting enough. Done before, but here 'older Janeway' and 'younger Janeway' were in the same body, not two separate people. Putting rational 'things' in place? Some of which I actually thought should have been done anyway? Good good.
Allowing herself to explore her 'feelings' towards certain people on her ship? Hmms . . . okay, understandable, good. Exploring these feelings with more than one woman at the same time with them also exploring similar feelings with each other to the point that everyone ends up in some kind of poly relationship? Well . . . different, but not the weird thing I was talking about, at least not specifically.
It was around the point when the 'new family' decided that 4 people was not the right number, so they'd add a fifth . . . for . . . reasons. So . . . a five person family, 4 of which are female, and one of which is more symbolic (until not). The four people getting together was . . . a stretch but . . . . still within the realm of readable. Adding the fifth . . . moved things towards weirder and weirder realms. Deciding to have one third of your crew start poly relationships, even if 'fake' for appearance sake . . . and we move into 'WTF' territory. But wait, there's more! (view spoiler).
Truth be told, the story had some rather interesting and neat elements to it. Quite readable. And, hell, I was pushing for a poly situation in that other Star Trek Voyager fanfiction series I'd read, so getting it here isn't 'bad' or weird or anything. I'm happy with that, really. It's just . . . somewhere along the way it seemed as if the author of this fanfiction put down lines and thought - 'cross here'? YES! *cross* New line. Cross here? OF COURSE!!! mmphs. Basically, I mean, some of the stuff seemed to be done more just to cross a line rather than be natural to the story. But . . . meh, entertaining story anyway.

Fanfiction - Star Trek Voyager

And, hell, I was pushing for a poly situation in that other Star Trek Voyager fanfiction series I'd read, so getting it here isn't 'bad' or weird or anything. I'm happy with that, really. It's just . . . somewhere along the way it seemed as if the author of this fanfiction put down lines and thought - 'cross here'? YES! *cross* New line. Cross here? OF COURSE!!! mmphs. Basically, I mean, some of the stuff seemed to be done more just to cross a line rather than be natural to the story. But . . . meh, entertaining story anyway.

Delle Seyah's Slave by Edonohana

I have no idea what 'Killjoys' is, beyond it being a television show (which I didn't even know until the little 'tv' after 'Killjoys' on Archive of Our Own). Based on what occurred in this story, I assume that there's some science fiction element to this television world. Though, until I Googled the show, I had developed this idea that it might be one of those animated shows (the 'she's my enemy!' comments that popped up over and over again, plus some similar comments, seemed like things I'd see on animated shows *shrugs*).
Right, so I have no clue what the show was, nor who the people were. But, apparently, I didn't need to know to find this story downright entertaining and fun and . . . stuff.
This is probably the part where knowing the show would help - the part where I mention what the story was about. No matter - a woman has been instrumental in the capture of someone another person cares about in some way. To get information needed to secure 'Johnny's' release, Dutch would have to agree to be Delle Seyah's slave for the night.
So . . . she reluctantly agrees. Partially because she wants the information, partially because she's very aroused by the whole thing. Though she's damned determined to not allow that part, the aroused part, show up on her face, in her reactions, etc.
Right, so, I don't want to convey the whole story here, but there are a few more tidbits that are needed to be dropped: part of the 'slave for the night' involves stripping, putting on barely there skirt, and having nipples painted with edible rouge. Okay, I could have just gotten away with - part of the slave for the night is the part where Dutch was dragged (by leash connected to a collar) to a 'lesbian kink party'; I think the wording was actually 'lesbian sex party', but . . . ).
Everyone has fun. Dutch is confused and angry about it, but has fun.
This picture here oddly seems to correspond to the story - woman in lingerie, being helped with her clothing. (I'd originally had that as Belle in lingerie with Dutch helping her get clothed, but I still don't actually know what either look like - I know that at least one of the women in that picture is either Dutch or Belle, and that both might in the picture but am not sure).

I think this is the third Supergirl fanfiction I've read. Yes, third. Three different authors, two different relationships (as in, Kara being matched up with people, two involve Kara+Lena, one involves Kara+Cat). This specific story involves Kara and Lena in a relationship.
Lena really likes both Kara and Supergirl - and hasn't exactly spent a life with friends. And wants to help her friends. So creates a vaccine for kryptonite for Supergirl; and hugs, and cuddles, and spends time watching television with Kara, even though she knows Kara's straight, and she herself wished Kara would tilt her head a little more when they cuddled to press their lips together.
For, reasons, she tested the vaccine on herself. It seemed to work. She got it ready to send off. Then Supergirl/Kara popped up. Both seemed super . . . touchier than normal. (view spoiler)).
This was a super neat, nice, fluffy, great story. I loved this story. It as super good.
